Healing Hands Health – Dental Hygiene Service Expansion

We are thrilled to announce the Virginia Health Care Foundation has awarded Healing Hands Health a grant in the amount of $90,000 to support the salary of a full-time dental hygienist!
"In 2020, there were only 29 dentists per 100,000 residents in Southwest Virginia, leaving the region with a huge shortage of care." American Dental Association
In response to the desperate need for dental care providers in our area, Healing Hands has taken steps to expand care to include individuals with Virginia Medicaid dental benefits and has added clinic capacity in preparation for a significant increase in number of individuals seeking dental services.
A generous gift from J.D. and Lorraine Nicewonder funded a capital project that increased the number of dental operatories from 9 to 13, added a second sterilization room; 2 offices; and a second x-ray room and grant funding supported hiring additional staff.
Oral health remains a top priority for Healing Hands Health Center. The Dental Expansion is Healing Hands effort to increase access to quality oral care in the Appalachian Highlands Region.
Healing Hands Health provides community-supported, affordably priced care that allows individuals with limited insurance coverage to restore their quality of life. Qualified residents of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia can receive medical, dental and vision care.
