David’s Story

I am not just accepted - I am loved.
— David

David Gregory, 64, has spent decades working in the hospitality industry in restaurants, hotels, and private clubs, experiencing both its joys and its tolls on his well-being. At the time he applied for his first appointment at Healing Hands Health in September of 2013, he was living in Bristol, TN, and feeling overwhelmed by various health concerns including blood pressure, degenerative disc disease, rosacea, depression, anxiety, and sleep apnea, among other challenges.

David's first appointment was scheduled, and he was prepared to receive medication assistance; however, he hadn't anticipated the extent to which Healing Hands had expanded its services to comprehensively care for his diverse health needs. David reflected, “The first time I walked through the doors of Healing Hands, I anticipated a brief appointment to get needed prescriptions, but it turned out to be much more. My appointment was a 40-minute, all-encompassing discussion of my health with a truly remarkable doctor who took the time to ask questions, listen, and show genuine compassion.”

As he breathed a sigh of relief and navigated through the care campus, David felt as if his worlds were serendipitously colliding. “I saw the presence of people I had encountered in the hospitality industry. Whether through [commemorative] door plaques, signs, or their physical presence, I recognized the names of individuals I had cared for in the past, and now they were caring for me through their generous gifts.”

Soon, after 11 years as a patient, David will be transitioning to Medicare upon turning 65, marking the end of his eligibility for health care at Healing Hands Health. Remembering his journey, he said, “I have always received support and understanding without judgment. When I leave, I feel heard, seen, and encouraged. I just wish I were 20 years younger to look forward to more time here. Healing Hands is more than a provider of health care; it is a community where kindness, compassion, and love are guiding principles, just like the warm embrace of the hospitality industry. Every interaction, every visit, feels like coming to a home where I am not just accepted — I am loved. I am forever grateful.”
